A new class of Police Administrative Aides entered the new, massive NYPD police
academy facility in Flushing, New York on December 4, 2014, for 9 weeks of intense training.
The union conducted an orientation on Thursday, February 5, 2015 for the 64 newest
members of Local 1549, who were scheduled to graduate the following day.
Brett Koch, Special Assistant to the Exec. V.P., extended congratulations and best wishes
from President Eddie Rodriguez and Executive Vice President Alma Roper.
Kenneth Mulligan, Assistant Director of the Clerical Division, was joined by Grievance
Representatives Rhonda Spaulding, Ernst Letemps and Diana Marenfeld.
In addition to sending greetings from DC37 Executive Director Henry Garrido, they
explained the ‘ins and outs’ of being a civil servant working for the NYPD in a civilian title.
They also spoke about the attack on unions and the importance of belonging to a union,
as the members completed and returned their green ‘Authorization for Deduction of Dues’ cards.
Mariama DaCostra, a DC37 Health & Pension Counselor, presented a comprehensive overview of
health & security benefits/services.
Lorraine McNeil, from the NYC Municipal Credit Union, informed members of the benefits of
being an M.C.U. member and explained the various products available.
The officers, executive board and staff of Local 1549 and the Clerical Division wish our new members well in their NYPD careers.
